(From left: Rianneth, Anathria, Rhinya; standing: Nethella, then Phaderil by Hian H. Rodriguez. Click here for the larger image.) All characters and events portrayed in these stories are fictional and any resemblance to any actual event or person, living or dead, is unintentional. Forest Dragoness is the current (er, first) novel I am writing, mostly because I had this idea from all those RPGs I play: Why are the female characters always "fragile" and generally weak-willed? I decided to think around the box and make the "fragile" fantasy stereotypes - female elves - more strong willed and able to channel their anger with nature's fury - dragons, dragonnes, and weapons and armor made of dryadite and glassteel. The "reverse stereotype" is a tad cliché, so I decided to take it one step further: What if the elf women conquered many lands, and set up empires and are ready to take false revenge upon the round-eared (humans, orcs, Dulorians, etc.), hijacking the once-peaceful Canopy religion and twisting its ideals (and even history) in an endeavor to take over the planet? This world is the same as the Mystic World in my first novel idea (though it isn't that big of a deal). In A Nutshell After the destruction of the human kingdoms of long past, the last of the elves forged their matriarchies around the Mystic World and within centuries, became powerful. Called to duty by her mother, Queen Karanilissa, recently promoted Forest Dragoness Rianneth Frostleaf is on a mission of redemption to find her half-sister Narilee, a potential threat to both elven and human kingdoms, and kill her. But based on Canopy’s brutal attacks on the nearby human towns, she thinks of the queen, the military, and her rivals Diana and Selidira as mere aggressors using the Canopy faith to exterminate all rivals. Can Rianneth get to Narilee, who might just hold the truth involving Canopy’s past, and stop the hijacking of Canopy's religion?
Other original stories: A quick short story partly inspired by the prologue of Arthur C. Clarke's "2001: A Space Odyssey" where the Canopy elves, on the brink of extinction, makes the choice to bloodily slaughter humans without mercy. Not a good story, in my opinion, but it's a start. Short, not-so-sweet...
