What's New in the Archives?

4/6/03: Better late than never...

Well... four months in my crap job and my book is going slowly. The good news is that the economy will pick up once the war with Iraq is won (go USA, UK, etc...!) and that my first draft of the novel is 90% complete, with the first seven chapters all complete, save editing and continuity.

First rant is up. This is about Jessica Lynch, the first female POW in the Second Gulf War to be rescued (and boy did she put one hell of a firefight against her captors, wounding or killing several Iraqi enemy forces!), and how various gender sides either honor or trivialize the capture and rescue. It seems that (a) both extremes of the political line tend to demonize women, and (b) women are both stronger and weaker than many of us thought. More in my article.

I've also included a second BONUS rant, "Star Wars is Still the Star", about the movies Star Wars vs. Lord of the Rings. It's a little old, but it explains why Star Wars (the original trilogy, not the crap prequels) will stay while Lord of the Rings will fade away come next movie trend.

I just got my commission of Rianneth Frostleaf finished, and updated the front graphics as well as the Forest Dragoness webpage. The full commission is here.

"Female Elf of the Week" will not be hosted. Too much going on, and besides, with games like Everquest, Morrowind, and Warcraft III running around, there is no real point in showing how "shafted" female elves are in the world of fantasy. Those games don't necessarily stereotype elves in general with the competence level of the French; nor do they get shafted and subliminally demonized like in the Forgotten Realms. Heck, FR is going down the tubes, with their desperate call for authors and their recent fantasy search contest. If you follow the money, Wizards of the Coast is desperate to get something to prop up D&D, and their 13-year-old dinosaur Forgotten Realms isn't helping anymore. It's just old - that's all.

Added Forest Dragoness Chapters 1 and 2, as well as a (complete) short story, "The Feral Ones". A far cry from my first debacle. I hope you like it.

Added a very quick writing article on what I learned when I began the path to professional writing.

Coming real soon: a new Links Page and a Contact page. Use this for questions, comments, corrections, or submission.

12/31/02: Welcome to the ALL NEW Cool Nut Archives!

This site will host all five (yes, five; Capcom announced that there will be a new BoF 2 for the PS2!) Breath of Fire games and hints, tips, trivia, and other fan stuff. In addition, I will also have webpages on some of my favorite games as well: Star Ocean: TSS, Valkyrie Profile, Septerra Core, Gauntlet Legends, Warcraft III, and more!

I will also have my original story (well, the first few chapters of it), as well as oodles of fanfics and RPG song parodies galore.

In addition, there are my occasional articles (er, rants?), as well as some gaming (mostly console game) humor, and two bits called the "Female Elf of the Week" and the "Most Ridiculous Item of the Week".
